The Shingle Creek neighborhood was "the country" for the folks thalliving along the thriving West Broadway or downtown Minneapolis in the early 1900's.
Shingle Creek was one of the first neighborhoods to have an African American community outside the downtown Minneapolis area.
During the Humboldt Greenway project Hennepin County Works put together background materials about the area and the people from the area. The history of our neighborhood is documented within this 30 page document written in 1999 by Carole Zole.
Due to the size of the document, it has been broken up into sections to make it easy to download and read.
Hopefully residents old and new will find this document and history about our neighborhood fascinating.
