Thank you from Jeff Johnson SCNA Shingle Creek Clean-up Site Coordinator
The weather on April 21st was cool and windy then warm and windy, but it didn’t stop the 80 volunteers from attending and retrieving a lot of trash and two bicycles from the Shingle creek and the watershed. Volunteer turnout was terrific this year and some things that made the clean-up so successful this year were: Wade Bryant and Owens Corning who bought $300.00 worth of pizzas, 23 in all, from Pizza Hut, donated two large Pink Panthers, six small panthers, several toys footballs, and hats.
Frank Heuckendorf and General Electric, a new sponsor this year, donated several boxes of energy saving fluorescent light bulbs. These were a huge hit during our prize raffle and fit well with the Earth Day theme. Rebecca Howse, a Water Quality specialist for the MPRB, did a terrific job of demonstrating how she tests the water in Shingle Creek. (See her test results below) The results indicated that the water quality could be much better and needs our help in getting healthy.
